A wimp (Woody Allen, pictured) goes into hospital for an operation on an ulcer and wakes up in a 22nd century police state.

An uneven movie with some dreary patches, but on the whole a witty satire on 70s fads, assisted by funny futuristic designs (the costumes are by Joel Schumacher, who later turned to directing movies like Cousins and Falling Down). Sleeper is most memorable for the largest banana-skin gag ever, Allen’s attempts to impersonate a domestic robot, and a wonderfully surreal moment when he kidnaps the world leader's nose.
