The animated story of the war between the encroachment of civilization and the beast gods of the forest.

Memorable, but it's overlong , with some extremely gruesome violence, a confused ecological message, and a plot and characters that are often incomprehensible. The saving graces are some strange, dreamlike images by the animator Hayao Miyazaki and one of the most haunting scores in recent movie history. I wouldn't recommend it for children, but you may enjoy it, if you watch cartoons for purely visual and aural stimulation.
