A film with creepy images which stay in the mind, and a highly original vision: it was the first to put the audience into the mind of a madman by showing his distorted viewpoint. The camera angles, stylised sets and lighting have all been imitated in countless later films. The acting, however, is primitive and the plot both confusing and monotonous, so that its a classic which few people nowadays watch for enjoyment.
