Writer-director Temistocles Lopez's modern, New York variation on the Max Ophuls classic, La Ronde.

This has several things going for it: a talented cast led by Malcolm McDowell and Assumpta Serna; and a well-tried formula (A bonks B, who has it off with C, etc) which promises plenty of sexual action, and clearly has relevance to the current Aids crisis. All the more disappointing, then, that the characters are so dull, the sex scenes so tame, and the tone so detached, that most people's patience will have been stretched beyond endurance by the end of the first two copulations.

An uneven but alluringly sexy melodrama that gets better as it goes along.
