A revolutionary (Gerard Depardieu, pictured right) upbraids his colleagues for having forgotten their original purpose.
Reviewed by Chris Tookey

Epic costume drama with splendid set-pieces, obviously intending to draw parallels between 18th century France and modern Poland. Marred by a talky script, too slow a pace, uninspired direction and some over-acting by Depardieu.

"The temptation to see it in terms of Solidarity is unavoidable."
(Philip Strick, Monthly Film Bulletin)
