A film crew in Nice have problems.

A witty comedy which exposes the mechanics of film-making without scorning the process which can create cinematic magic. Many cliches are lovingly satirised, and there's a terrific performance by Valentina Cortese as the temperamental, alcoholic grande dame. Although Truffaut deals mainly in caricatures, they are presented so realistically and affectionately that an audience can hardly help but like them. Though it's all very lightweight, this remains one of the best films about films, and a valuable corrective to the cynicism of Robert Altman's The Player. Watch out for writer Graham Greene, who (credited as Henry Graham) plays an insurance representative. Winner of a BAFTA Award as Best Film.
