A song-and-dance act (Fred Astaire, pictured left, and Ann Miller, right) splits up, and he has to find a new partner (Judy Garland).
Reviewed by Chris Tookey

Fred Astaire and Judy Garland combine in an enjoyable if lightweight vehicle which might have been made for their talents, but wasn't. Astaire stepped in at the last moment, to replace an injured Gene Kelly. The story is extremely weak, and Peter Lawford could profitably have been excised (his scenes are feeble, and he struggles when singing A Fella With An Umbrella ). But the Astaire-Garland duet, A Couple of Swells , is a high point in musical cinema - as are his solo spots Stepping Out With My Baby and Drum Crazy . Roger Edens and Johnny Green won the Oscar for musical direction.
