Guests at a dinner party are too lazy to leave.

One of Bunuel's unfunny, plodding satires on the bourgeoisie, with the characters gradually reverting to bestiality and cannibalism. Even The Discreet Charm of the Bourgoisie did it better. Lord of the Flies did it a lot better. Adored by critics, who found it wittily surreal and evidently felt superior to the characters portrayed here with such unconscious complacency. |
