Elizabeth I (Flora Robson) resists the Spanish Armada, with the help of a young man (Laurence Olivier) avenging his father's death at ther hands of the Spanish Inquisittion.

Jolly swashbuckler, jolly well acted - especially by Robson, in her love scenes with Leicester (Leslie Banks). Lavishly produced by British standards, though an obviously stretched budget doesn't help with the disappointingly staged climax.
