A riveting thriller of journalistic investigation, all the better for making it clear that the protagonists' motivation was professional, rather than political.
The faint narcissism of the two stars only adds another layer to the characterisation: Bernstein and Woodward were not shrinking violets either.
Alan J. Pakula's direction effectively contrasts the lightness of the newspaper office with the shady nature of Nixonian politics.
Jason Robards turns in an outstanding performance as Washington Post Editor Ben Bradlee.
