Delightful, lightweight, colourful musical with Audrey Hepburn at her most gamine, and the glorious Fred Astaire - who looks too old for the part, but wins through on sheer charm. The targets for satire - Left Bank philosophers and high fashion - are dated, and the basic story is so feeble that it would be turned down by any women's magazine; but the Gershwin songs have stood the test of time, and Stanley Donen directs with great style.
The cinematography by Ray June, costume design by Edith Head and Hubert DeGivenchy, and art direction by Hal Pereira and George W. Davis were all Oscar-nominated
