An American hoofer (Fred Astaire) falls for a woman (Ginger Rogers) who is on the verge of divorce.

Astaire and Rogers at their best in a flimsy farce: their second film and first major success together. It features a superb ballad, Night and Day, and one of the great production numbers, The Continental (expertly choreographed by Dave Gould), which won the Oscar for Best Song. Also nominated were the score, sound and art direction.
