Steven Spielberg's tribute to Boy's Own adventure is one of the most exciting action movies ever made, even if it never quite lives up to its opening sequence. Harrison Ford is very nearly credible as the world's most macho archaeologist; and despite its furious pace the movie is not without wit and charm. Audiences quite rightly ignored the more curmudgeonly crittics and made this one of the top 10 moneymakers of all time. It won Oscars for art direction (Norman Reynolds, Leslie Diillety, Michael Ford), editing (Michael Hahn), visual effects, sound, and sound effects editing, and received nominations for cinematography (Douglas Slocombe) and score (John Williams). |
