The anti-war message now seems "vieux chapeau", and the contrast between childish innocence and adult corruption is too schematic to be convincing: it just looks naive and sentimental Still, the performances are very touching, and this remains one of the most charming films ever made about childhood. Winner of the main prize at the Venice Film Festival. |
