Fellini’s Oscar-winning road movie. Despite much pathos and depressing neo-realist settings, the script has many touches of humour and romance. It’s lovely to look at (cinematography is by Otello Martell) and to hear: Nino Rota adorns the movie with one of his most haunting scores. Giulietta Masina's performance is a little too winsomely Chaplinesque for some tastes, including mine.
