A charming period piece, with a surprisingly sharp edge (this was made before the Hays Code imposed a silence about all things sexual). Needless to say, the plot is negligible; but the Rodgers and Hart songs include Isn't It Romantic? and Lover (When You Need Me). Mamoulian's direction is startlingly good; and there are three delightful performances from the leads - with Myrna Loy memorable as a nymphomaniac Countess.
