A good stage play becomes a wonderful film, thanks to excellent casting, stunning performances even in minor roles, unfussy direction and lovely photography (for which Ted Moore won an Oscar). One of the classic history films, and - contrary to some critics' beliefs - it does illuminate the issues of its time. |
