In 1831, the son of an old Southern family (Buster Keaton, pictured) returns to claim his inheritance, and begins dating the daughter (Natalie Talmadge) of a family with whom he is supposed to be feuding.

Keaton's second full-length feature, a classic silent comedy, shows off his appetite for period detail, his love of transportation gags, and his marvellous acrobaticism. It features some of his most famous stunts, including the final waterfall rescue, for which he did not use a double. After the film, he married his leading lady, although they did not live happily ever after.
