Female intellectual (Greer Garson, pictured left) finds love in 18th century England.

As long as you don't expect the subtlety of Jane Austen's novel and can tolerate the odd Hollywood gaffe, this is a highly polished, very entertaining filming of the classic novel. Laurence Olivier (pictured right) smoulders, Greer Garson is pert, and the art direction (Cedric Gibbons and Paul Groesse) deserved its Oscar.
