Would you believe, The Taming of the Shrew starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, directed by John Ford, and set in a heavily romanticised Irish village? It's hardly a masterpiece, but tolerable on a wet Sunday afternoon, if you can stand the whimsy and the air of unreality, which extends far beyond the patently artificial sets. The cinematography of Winton C. Hoth and Archie Stout won an Academy Award.
"The sexiest picture ever made."
(John Ford)
