Quentin Tarantinos first hit is extremely - and dispassionately - violent, but it's undeniably stylish and has an inventively twisted storyline. Harvey Keitel stars, but its Tim Roth and Michael Madsen who carry off the acting honours. Critics were divided between acclaiming and deploring it. I enjoyed it a lot as a technical exercise, but couldn't see that it had anything to say.
