Wonderfully silly biblical epic, entertaining because of its blatantly modern attempt to see events in terms of Hollywood stereotypes. Sample line... Samson, about to grapple with a big cat: "I don't need that spear - it's only a young lion." The film won an Academy Award for its art direction (by Hans Dreir, Walter Tyler, Sam Comer and Ray Moyer) and costume design (Edith Head, Dorothy Jeakins, Elios Jenssen, Gile Steele and Gwen Wakeling). It was nominated for George Barnes's cinematography, Victor Young's music, and its visual effects.
