Though beautifully art-directed and faithful to the original novel, it has none of the usual vices of literary adaptations. The whole cast is sensitive to the original author's intentions. George Cole stands in ably as the young Scrooge in the flashback to Christmas Past. Some of the transitions between scenes are a bit jerky, but the undervalued British director Brian Desmond Hurst (his other big hit was Dangerous Moonlight) ensures that the plot proceeds at a good pace. |
