Inoffensive - and that's the trouble. The screenplay completely lacks misses the bite and cynicism of Sinclair Lewis's novel. Strong leading performances compensate, but this was a wasted opportunity.

Smooth, pleasant but trite.

Quite tolerable but lacking density.

Amusing but forgettable.
