"The written synopsis is much more entertaining than the picture, which is a pretentious bore. If the Film Society would like to see Ideology in mature yet convincing and healthy form, I suggest they take a look at a Silly Symphony called Spring Song, and another Walt Disney picture, Mickey Mouse's performance of Uncle Tom's Cabin."
(Pare Lorentz, Vanity Fair, 1933)
"[It] is extremely rarely screened...[so] the ICA is to be congratulated for giving us a chance to say what a load of cobblers it is... The film belongs to history, not large art...this is surrealism at is worst, cheaply blasphemous and boring to boot."
(John Coleman, New Statesman, 1980)
