John Hughes
Writer, Director, Curly Sue (1991)
Dreadful. The comic acting is among the coarsest I've seen, the slapstick is desperately unfunny, and the schmaltz covers everything like Los Angeles smog. At one point, in an attempt to bring a tear to our eye, Hughes even makes lovable little Curly Sue sing The Star Spangled Banner in a spunky, stage-school soprano. Not even Orphan Annie stooped so low. A horrible example of Hollywood at its most charmlessly infantile.
(Chris Tookey, Sunday Telegraph)
Possibly the worst film John Hughes has ever thrown up. Indeed, throwing up is likely to be your reaction.
