| This modern western is a tough drama about racism, directed by John Sturges at the top of his form and so brilliantly acted that it almost makes you forget how black-and-white is its view of humanity. There's plenty of sustained tension, and it's a welcome reminder that you don't need violence to make an effective thriller. |
