The amorous encounters of a dance hall hostess (Shirley MacLaine, pictured centre).

Bob Fosses debut as a choreographer-director is a dynamic affair, enthusiastically performed by Shirley Maclaine as a tart with a heart. Unfairly panned on release, it is very enjoyable if a little long (and the last half-hour is downbeat, for a musical). Highlights include Big Spender and the big rooftop dance number, There Must Be Something Better Than This.
