Nazis are prevented from invading Britain by three evacuee children, a witch and a magic bedstead.

A fairly hamfisted attempt to cash in on the success of Mary Poppins, redeemed by splendid animation, excellent Oscar-winning special effects and an energetic performance by Angela Lansbury as a well-meaning witch. Costumes, art direction, score and song (The Age of Not Believing ) were all Oscar-nominated.
