A horrifying drama, drawn from real life, about the Camorra, the criminal underworld of Naples, which has spread its tentacles far and wide, including the Milan clothing industry and the rebuilding of the World Trade Centre in New York.

This passionate indictment of Italian organised crime is a warts-and-all (or rather all-warts) Italian drama about the threat posed to civilisation by organised crime in Naples and beyond. It’s a brave, if somewhat chaotic, attempt to de-glamorise the gangster film by Matteo Garrone. The non-fiction book on which he’s based the five-stranded narrative is so accurate that its author, journalist Robert Saviano, is now under round-the-clock police protection. Expect a less gruelling and brutally pessimistic Hollywood remake.
