Inaccurate historical romance which takes far too long to get going: the main romantic plot is tedious. The point of the film, however, is the final charge - breathtakingly photographed. It looks dangerous, and it was: many men and horses were injured, and it led to tougher rules on animal safety. Max Steiner was nominated for his score, his first for Warner Brothers.
