Aspirational small-town girl (Katharine Hepburn, pictured second right) falls in love.

This remake of a 1923 silent loses practically all the satirical edge of Booth Tarkington's novel and softens Hepburn's snobbishness to the point that she becomes quite endearing. What remains is a handsome, nostalgic vision of small-town America, an excellent performance by Hepburn, and some marvellous set-pieces, especially the dinner scene.
