| A marvellous example of film noir: the most visually stylish of all the films of Raymond Chandler's novels and very faithful to the original text. Dick Powell (better known as a light tenor in Busby Berkeley musicals) makes a surprisingly effective Philip Marlowe, and the supporting cast is flawless. Remade in 1975 as Farewell, My Lovely. |
