| John Carpenter's expertly made horror movie, in which Jamie Lee Curtis (daughter of Janet Leigh, the actress who met a grisly end in Psycho) made her screen debut as the obligatory female adolescent under threat from a psychopathic killer. Despite superficial characters and little in the way of plot logic, its a trailblazing slasher movie, much imitated in the various ways it builds up suspense: its success paved the way for five inferior sequels and, surprisingly, a superior one in 1998: Halloween H20. |
