Priest (Pat O'Brien, pictured right) is disturbed to find gangster (James Cagney, left) worshipped as hero by Dead End kids.

Classic gangster drama with a social conscience and strong moral. Craggy Pat O’Brien somehow manages to avoid seeming pious, as he shows his cocky childhood buddy on Death Row (James Cagney) why it’s not such a great idea for the community that he’s worshipped by the local youth. Cagney and O'Brien make a great screen partnership.
