First-rate action picture, best of the series, with a bigger budget, terrific costume designs by Norma Moriceau, a little more characterisation and even more brilliantly orchestrated action sequences. Mad Max regains a little of the optimism he lost when his wife and children were killed in the first movie and becomes more of a mythic figure, like The Man With No Name in Sergio Leones westerns. Critical reaction was warmer than for the previous picture, although it was still widely dismissed.
