An ocean liner turns upside down, trapping some passengers.

Ludicrous but likeable, this is one of the most enjoyably bad disaster films. You know the ship's going to be in trouble, as soon as you see that Leslie Nielsen is the captain. Neame directs with his usual dullness, and as though he hasn't a clue that the script is full of cliches. The movie contains a commendably straight-faced performance by Gene Hackman. Shelley Winters was inexplicably Oscar-nominated for a performance which can only be described as wildly camp. The song "The Morning After" won an Oscar. John Williams's score was more deservedly nominated, as was Harold Stine's cinematography.

Sample line... Preacher (Gene Hackman) addressing God: "What more do you want of us? How much more blood? How many more lives?"
