A medium (Kim Stanley, pictured) encourages her husband (Richard Attenborough) to kidnap a child, so that she can advise the police on where to find it, and earn herself free publicity.

An ingenious thriller, neatly directed, intelligently written and very well acted by Attenborough. Some find Kim Stanley's performance - highly acclaimed at the time - so mannered and Method actressy that it's in dubious taste; and perhaps her drift into madness might have been more convincingly motivated, but this remains a gripping little suspenser, with a nicely observed suburban setting.
