Boxer (Robert Ryan, pictured) refuses gangsters' invitation to "throw" his last fight.

Classic if predictable film noir about 72 minutes in the life of a boxer, notable for a gutsy central performance by Robert Ryan, and the skill with which Robert Wise directed the whole thing on a shoestring. The film is, however, let down by the leading actress.
