This attempt at thirties sophistication must rank among the worst musicals of all time, and is certainly the worst-reviewed; but the sheer incompetence of the leading performances means that at least it is never boring.

"The one thing it proves is that I didn't know how to make a musical."

(Peter Bogdanovich)

"At Long Last Love was not as bad as it was reviewed. I mean nothing could be that bad. What was reviewed was Cybill Shepherd and Peter Bogdanovich's relationship. You see, Peter has done something that all critics will never forgive him for doing. That is, stop being a critic, go make a film and have that, The Last Picture Show, become enormously successful. Well, what he did then was to go on talk shows and be rather arrogant and talk about how bad critics are. That was the final straw."

(Burt Reynolds)
